“And he told them this parable: “There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none, he said to the gardener, ‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. So cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?’ He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.’” —Luke 13:6-9
I am the fig tree. The Lord has given me a strong root, fertile soil, an angel to nurture me, and the Holy Spirit to provide life-giving water. I have all I need to produce good fruit for Him, yet the Lord has also given me free will. While I have ample resources, the question remains: ‘Is my desire to follow my will or God’s?’
Following my will surely leads to a barren yield, while growing in the Lord produces a bountiful harvest. Christ has given me one more day to produce some good fruit for Him. Time grows short for the one who produces no harvest; we know not the day the axe will drop to cut us from the root.

Jesus, I trust in you.
