“Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Of her was born Jesus who is called the Christ. Thus the total number of generations from Abraham to David is fourteen generations; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations; from the Babylonian exile to the Christ, fourteen generations.” -Matthew 1:16-17
After the Fall, God’s plan to reunite His children with Himself drew out through the generations. At the appointed time, the Son came in fulfillment of prophecy to bring salvation for all who would receive Him.
As we meditate on our journey to Bethlehem with Mary and Joseph, we become part of salvation history. In our prayer, God allows us to join that glorious procession to the manger, from which Christ would offer Himself as true food and drink to satisfy the soul and become one with God.
As we grow nearer to the destination, we approach the appointed time of salvation. Only a few days are left to travel with the Holy Family. Today, Our Lord is being carried to Bethlehem, inside the Ark, riding upon a donkey, and you have been blessed to be given this day to sojourn with them, even if only in your heart.
Saint John of Matha, pray for us.
