“As Jesus drew near Jerusalem, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If this day you only knew what makes for peace–but now it is hidden from your eyes. For the days are coming upon you when your enemies will raise a palisade against you; they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides. They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.” -Luke 19:41-44
Jesus wept not just for Jerusalem but for every soul who rejects Him. He says to each, ‘If this day you only knew what makes for peace–but now it is hidden from your eyes…because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.’ His tears for the lost are born of the pain in His heart. He aches for us and wishes each soul would accept His mercy and salvation. His ache is only rivaled by the ache felt in the heart of His Blessed Mother, Mary. She cries, ‘They have forgotten what my Son has done for them!’
My friends, if not you and me, who will go out and remind the world that they need not remain in the rubble of destruction? Who will help them see Jesus has come to offer the peace and mercy of His salvation? Who, if not us, will show them that Mary, too, aches for them, waiting to lead the blind to the salvation of her glorious Son?
Blessed Maria Franciszka Siedliska, pray for us.
