Jesus said to his disciples: "When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me. And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning. "I have told you this so that you may not fall away. They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God. They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me. I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you." -John 15:26-16:4
When I found myself in the presence of the Holy Spirit, it was as if I returned home. I realized I had been homesick my whole life yet never knew it. I knew then that Christ had always been with me and would never let go.
Jesus calls us all to testify and sends the Holy Spirit to give us the words. But if we want to truly touch souls and knock away the scale that blinds the eyes of the lost, we must do more than merely speak the words. We must show them that Christ resides in the center of our souls.
Christ redeemed us, defenseless and exposed on His cross, so when we testify, we must be willing to strip our soul naked and render it defenseless as well. If we remove all the coverings and protections of self, all that remains is Jesus sitting on His throne in the center of our souls. By exposing ourselves and laying aside our protections, we allow others to see God’s greatest gift to the world in us. And that is true testimony.
