Jesus said to his disciples: "Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God. When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and said, "Who then can be saved?" Jesus looked at them and said, "For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible." -Matthew 19:23-26
I have often heard that Jesus referenced a gate in Jerusalem, but historical text shows that the gate was not created until after 1000 A.D. No one who heard Christ speak would have known the reference, and while the idea of unburdening ourselves is a good one, that was not the point of Jesus’ words. Both Matthew and Luke speak of this story, and both wrote their Gospels in Greek. Both used the specific words, surgeon’s needle in one and sewing needle in the other. They were very clear that Jesus wanted us to know that with the unimaginable power of God, indeed all things are possible if we just have the tiniest of faith.
Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary Throughout biblical history, the mother of the Israelite king was named the queen mother. Traditionally it was to the queen mother that the royal subjects would bring their petitions, and she would carry those needs to her son the king. So, it is no different now that we ask the Queen Mother Mary to take our petitions to Jesus her Son, the King of kings.
