“Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary, the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.” -John 19:25-27
“And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.” As the Greek translation of that verse suggests, what John did was not merely a physical act but a profound spiritual one. The translation says, “he took her deep within his being.” This is the same invitation Jesus extends to us to embrace His Mother, Mary, deep within our hearts and souls.
God holds our souls in His mighty hand; it is infinitely stronger than granite or steel and remains impenetrable by the enemy. But the Holy Mother also reaches out to us with her hand. Hers is much softer and gentler than the Father’s and lovingly guides us to her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mary, the Mother of God, intercedes on our behalf to Her Son. Like at the wedding at Cana, she wants us to receive all the goodness Jesus has prepared for us. Mary calls out to us and tells us, “Do whatever He tells you.”
