“Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, “John has been raised from the dead”; others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”; still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.” But Herod said, “John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see him.” -Luke 9:7-9
Why did Herod want to see Jesus, and what reason lay in his heart? When Herod finally met Jesus during the Passion, he was too blind to see Jesus was the Christ.
Why do you seek Him? What reason lives in your heart that you look to see the Lord? If we do not open the eyes of our souls, we will not recognize Christ when He comes to us. If all we ask of Him is to witness a miracle or satisfy our curiosity, we seek Him for the wrong reason.
When we stop “trying” to see Jesus, we will learn He is already present with us. Then, if we sit quietly with Him, asking for no miracle or grand experience, we will see who He is. We will learn that He has already given us all that we will ever need. We will know that our God, our Savior, Our Lord, our Brother, and our Friend is with us, always.
