“I will pour clean water upon you to cleanse you from all your impurities, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts. I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes, careful to observe my decrees.” Ezekiel 36:25-27
Today’s first reading reminded me of the following excerpt from my new book, The Triumph of the Cross.
“At that very moment, I realized something had changed in me. I want to say it was a physical change, but I’m not sure physical is the right word for what I experienced since the soul is not a physical element. In any case, my soul was now different.
Ever since the experience of losing God’s touch on my soul in that place of eternal misery, sorrow, and regret, amazingly, I have been able to feel His hand holding my soul. After this encounter, I could feel Christ’s love carried within those waves of pain and poured into my soul, still dwelling within me. Not only could I feel the love, but I felt as if the walls of my soul were rebuilt, and His love was infused in their being.
A flash came into my mind, and a quick vision of my heart appeared. I could see that the wall muscles were now changed as if they were made of another substance—no longer the same. I knew that my physical heart had not changed, and what was shown to me was offered as an example of what the Lord had done to my soul.”
