“Brothers and sisters: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” -2 Corinthians 9:6-10
The following is a true story shared with me yesterday:
K found himself in the presence of Christ and was shown a man who had just committed suicide. Jesus told K the sin of that man’s death rests on K’s soul. K asked Our Lord, “How can this be? I do not even know this man?”
Jesus opened his mind so K could remember. One day, K was angrily returning an item at a store, and he recognized the clerk as the man who killed himself. K saw how rude and nasty he spoke to the clerk, who couldn’t complete the return because of store rules. K yelled at him as he stormed off, never to think of the clerk again.
Christ then let K enter the clerk’s mind at the moment of the outburst. Earlier in the day, the clerk discovered that his wife was cheating on him. When he clocked in for his shift, he was given notice that his job was being terminated because of the poor economy. The man prayed and asked for just one person to treat him with love and kindness. Then, K saw himself through the clerk's eyes as he walked up to the counter and began screaming. The last thing the clerk remembered before he took his own life was K’s anger.
Our sins reach out and touch others. Jesus requires our good works to sow His love and to be His body here on earth. Consider the importance of choosing virtue over sin.
