“Jesus said to his disciples: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them.” -Matthew 7:15-20
The other day, I drove through Michigan with my family. We noticed an orchard along the side of the highway with trees full of fruit. At first, we thought they were apple trees, but we realized apples would not have turned red and be so full this early in the summer. As we looked closer, we saw they were cherry trees bursting with ripening fruit.
While a cherry tree can only ever be that tree, we must choose what we will become. We decide to live our lives as either thornbush or fruit tree. Today, as others pass us by, what kind of tree will they see?
If we are blessed to know Christ and outwardly live our lives as if we do, we become like those cherry trees. Our Lord becomes so abundant in us that even from afar, people will see His fruits bursting from us and know what kind of tree we are by the fruits He’s produced in us.
