“Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into Gehenna. "It was also said, Whoever divorces his wife must give her a bill of divorce. But I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” -Matthew 5:27-32
The enemy uses sin to divide us from God and one another. When sin enters our temporary mortal life, it has a devastating effect on our everlasting immortal being. Christ came to break the hold sin has on us. His forgiveness is always ready for us to ask for, repent, and make atonement. Jesus makes clear the importance of atoning for our sins.
But when God enters into our lives, His grace is poured out upon us and unites us to Him. What His grace has joined together must be honored and cherished as the gift it truly is. What a sin it is to divide what the Lord has made one.
“He said in reply, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” -Matthew 19:4-6
