“Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” -Luke 1:39-45
Mary is a Godsend, not only in the spiritual realm but throughout her earthly life. Zechariah and Elizabeth were advanced in age, far beyond the biological reproductive limits of the human body. Mary ran to her aged cousin to help her prepare for what is for young women, the most difficult last three months. Imagine the relief of the expectant couple when the young Mary comes to help them.
Throughout Scripture, Mary is present, in the background, always working for the glory of the Lord. She was present at Jesus' conception and birth. She found Him in the Temple, at the Wedding at Cana, the Passion, Resurrection, and Pentecost. She was with Jesus always then, and today is no different. Mary is still here with her Son, working in our lives for the Glory of God.
