“As Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the sabbath, his disciples began to make a path while picking the heads of grain. At this the Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?” He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry? How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the bread of offering that only the priests could lawfully eat, and shared it with his companions?” Then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.” -Mark 2:23-28
Do we walk with the Lord on the Sabbath? Do we place Jesus in our lives as Lord of the Sabbath, or do we replace Him with things of this world that we have made lord in our lives?
There was a time when I spent my Sundays absorbed in watching professional sports; my mood the following week hinged on my team’s performance on Sunday. We’ve made a change as a family. We purposefully start our week with Mass and focus the remainder of our day on rest and fellowship with each other.
The enemy whispers in our ears and surrounds us with many distractions that aren’t restful; instead, they pull us away from the Lord. We justify to ourselves that they are a perfect way to spend our day. But, nothing will improve your mood or give you more rest than walking side by side with the Lord on His day.
