“When Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days, it became known that he was at home. Many gathered together so that there was no longer room for them, not even around the door, and he preached the word to them. They came bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. Unable to get near Jesus because of the crowd, they opened up the roof above him. After they had broken through, they let down the mat on which the paralytic was lying. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to him, “Child, your sins are forgiven.” -Mark 2:1-5
Chances are we know someone whose soul is paralyzed by sin, unable to move on their own toward Christ. Faith is a grace God grants us, just as prayer wells up in us as a gift from the Holy Spirit. If you have either, praise the Lord, for He is with you, and thank God for granting such movement in your soul.
If those men had berated, preached to, or whipped their friend, it would not have moved him one inch closer to the Lord. Instead, they picked up their friend and carried him to Christ.
We are called to do the same for our friends paralyzed by sin. When we invite them into our lives and homes, we tear open the roof and carry them in. Then, they find themselves face to face with Jesus, for if we truly live a Christian life, that is where Christ calls home.
