“On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees. He said to the host who invited him, "When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or sisters or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." -Luke 14:12-14
Faith, works, or both? Jesus lived His life performing works of mercy everywhere He traveled. He denied Himself the glory and honor He deserved while He walked the Earth, from His first breath as a poor, helpless baby, to His last as the perfect Sacrifice for our sin. In between those two breaths, Christ called us all to develop a deep faith in the Most Holy Trinity, follow His example, deny who we think we are, and behave as children of God. To have real faith in the Lord is to know He lives within us, to see our brothers through His eyes, and with our hands, to give them His mercy everywhere we go.
