“Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me." The Lord said to her in reply, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her." -Luke 10:38-42
There is an old quote that says, “If the devil can’t make you bad, he will make you busy.” It is such an easy trap to fall into. We get on with our day and the endless list of things that must be done. Before we know it, hours or even the whole day has passed, and we have neglected to spend time with the Lord. Christ is the one thing we need, and He should be placed at the very top of our daily list. If you can’t spend your whole day resting next to Jesus, in quiet contemplation, give Him at least a short time of daily quiet prayer. Then, invite Jesus to come with you in your daily work. Throughout the day, talk to Him, listen to Him, and enjoy His company in the midst of your busyness. Strive to be like Mary as often as possible, but even when you must be like Martha, ask Jesus to join you in your work, and then even work becomes the better part.
