“As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners." -Matthew 9:9-13 Jesus, fully God and fully man, comes to us and says, “Follow Me.” If we are to rise and follow, we must not only see and hear Him with our eyes and ears but with the eyes and ears of our soul as well. We must know him with both our physical and spiritual senses, but sin builds a scale that covers the eyes and ears of the soul, and leaves the sinner blind and deaf to God. Body and soul are connected; where one goes, the other follows, and sin leads us away from God. But Christ touches some, breaks away the scale of sin, and allows them to truly see and hear Him. My friends we are all sinners, but Christ has touched us, and opened our senses to Him, so that as each of us passes by the sinner, we can stop and say, “Arise, walk with me, and follow Him.” And, one by one, He awakens the world.
