"Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'If one swears by the temple, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gold of the temple, one is obligated.' Blind fools, which is greater, the gold, or the temple that made the gold sacred? And you say, 'If one swears by the altar, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gift on the altar, one is obligated.' You blind ones, which is greater, the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? One who swears by the altar swears by it and all that is upon it; one who swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it; one who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who is seated on it."-Matthew 23:16-22
We are surrounded on every side by blind guides, who urge us to obsess over the treasures of this world and forget that those gifts came from God. We place the greatest importance on the things closest to our hearts and having treasures on earth is not inherently evil since those gifts were given to us by God. But the enemy leads us to place our worldly things in the center of our hearts, loving the gift more than the Giver. We must change our perspective to understand that the treasures found here, and now, are not earned by us but rather lavishly given by God. Once we believe that, it isn’t the gift that we’ll place in our heart, but rather God who gave it.

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” – St. Augustine
