“Because God has made us for Himself, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him.” – Saint Augustine

There is a longing in the heart of every person. The world tells us to fill that hole with things to satisfy ourselves; to add just one more thing and then we will be happy. We are told that self-love should be placed at the center of our lives and then everything else will fall into place.

Ignore the temptation of the enemy. St. Augustine, as did so many of the saints, understood that God has placed that longing we feel, in our hearts. Whether we know it or not, that longing is for Him, just as He longs for us. It is the enemy that tells us that we can fill that void with the trappings of this world.

As we try and fill that void with “self” we realize that nothing seems to satisfy. When I feel that longing for “something” in my heart, I turn to the Lord and ask Him to satisfy my desire.

“Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.” – Romans 12:2
