“Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.” -John 19:25-27

A dull ache runs through the world, always present, just below the surface, and under all the background noise. Perhaps you can feel as I do, it is the pain held within the sorrowful heart of Mary.

In her pain comes an ever-present message, “They have forgotten.” I know to what she refers; the world has forgotten what her Son has done for them. Yet in her pain, there is hope.

Whether you can feel Mary’s pain or hear her cry matters not; know it is here with us. Christ gave us His mother to lead us to Him. As Christians, we were given the same purpose: to lead souls to Christ. Mary knows her Son’s sacrifice was necessary for the salvation of man. Christians must reveal their hearts to remind the world what Christ has done for them, and in doing so, they console the sorrowful heart of Mary.

Jesus’ father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” -Luke 2:33-35
