“Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.” -John 16:20-23
Once we truly allow Christ into our heart, and we feel the Father’s hand holding our soul, there will be no memory of the past pain in our life. The pains of today are of no consequence and are gladly carried for His purposes because we can feel the Lord’s touch upon us. We realize that if we have God, we have everything we ever have and ever will need, and nothing of this Earth can take that from us.
Janis Joplin once poked fun at how some people pray; “Oh Lord won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz.” If you feel as if your prayers aren’t being answered, try asking differently. Rather than asking for a specific list for yourself or others, ask the Father in Jesus’s name, for the things He knows we need, and ask for the wisdom to accept the gifts He gives.
