“Jesus said to his disciples: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another.”-John 15:12-17

The depth of God’s love is something we can’t understand, but we know that God is Love, pure and true. Christ bookends His speech with the command to love one another because this love brings us closer to God. He has chosen each of us, to go out and proclaim His message of salvation. Are we willing to put aside our will, lay down our life, and go out and bear fruit for Him? The enemy wants only to divide, while Christ wants to unite. What we are willing to give up, to go out and unite the lost souls to the friendship of Christ? If we ask for the help of the Father in the name of the Son, we find that we don’t give up anything, but rather we gain everything. The enemy wants us to hate, while Christ commands us to love. Whom do we obey?
