“Jesus passed through towns and villages, teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few people be saved?” He answered them, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough. After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’ He will say to you in reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ And you will say, ‘We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.’ Then he will say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!’ And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out. And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the Kingdom of God. For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.” -Luke 13:22-30

“For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” -Matthew 7:14

These two verses should have shaken me awake, yet I heard them my whole life and did not believe their Truth. I lived by the world’s standards and expected that was enough for me to enter through the narrow gate.

Then, I stood peering into the pit of hell, paralyzed in soul-crushing fear. That place was worse than anything I could have ever imagined, yet that was not what surprised me. What left me in shock and added to the fear was the absolutely massive and expansive scale of hell.

So, today, like every other day since I awoke here on earth instead of that place of torture, I thank the Lord. I thank God for another chance to listen to His Word, to follow His Way, to repent and atone for my sins, and try my hardest to follow the Father’s will and commandments. This is a glorious day to love the Lord with all my being and to love my neighbor as I love myself. Thank God for this day, and for the chance to try my hardest to live this life as He intended.
