Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” -Luke 12:49-53
Each soul, upon its creation, is given a tiny spark that smolders until a chosen moment. When we allow Christ to enter our hearts and finally open the door, inviting Him to dwell within us, God breathes on that spark, and it becomes a giant flame.
I feel Jesus’ anguish. So many sit in the pews, content with nothing more than the tiny ember placed by the Father. How I wish for the Lord to breathe on those sparks, setting those souls ablaze.
Blessed are those who have maintained that small light. Even more blessed are those who have allowed God to set themselves ablaze. May the Holy Spirit breathe that life into each of us. May the light and breath of the Holy Spirit issue forth from us, and may the whole world be set ablaze for Our Lord. Amen.
