“Jesus said to his disciples: "What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost." -Matthew 18:12-14
In this passage, Jesus tells us He will always be there searching for us when we go astray, but let’s consider a little Advent twist to this Scripture.
We are blessed in this age to have the Gospels, the Church, and all the teachings of Christ readily available. Yet, even with all that as our guide, we may still find ourselves lost. If you have gone astray, be like the shepherds in the field when the angel tells them about the birth of Jesus.
Today, be the one who runs from the hills, leaving the world behind to search for the Lamb. When you finally find the Christ child lying in the manger, rejoice in the Father’s will and His love. Know His will is that not one of His little ones ever be lost, and His love comes as His only begotten Son, sent to save the ones who are.
