“While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God." Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives." -Mark 14:22-26
God desires for man to understand how ugly sin is and what damage it does to the soul. He required the Old Covenant sacrifice through the blood of animals as an imperfect atonement for sin so man could grasp the gravity of our offense.
Jesus does not mince words. In the Bread of Life Discourse, He makes clear to us the Old Covenant was an inadequate sacrifice because of the ponderous weight of sin on our souls. The New Covenant Sacrifice of His perfect Body and Blood is the sole remedy to heal the damage wrought by sin.
The Old Testament required Temple Sacrifice in the worship of the LORD, and still today, that sacrifice is fulfilled through the Sacrifice of the Mass. Praise God and give thanks to Our Lord Jesus Christ, who gives His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity as the New Covenant Sacrifice for the salvation of our souls.
