“He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it."-Matthew 16:15-18
On the Feast Day of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, we remember two men from opposite walks of life, chosen by God, to lead His Church. What a great reminder that God has created us all, and chosen us all, to be leaders. He asks us, rich or poor, white collar or blue, to go out and lead the lost back to Him, by proclaiming His Gospel and bringing others into His Church. One man was of high station and the other low, but both were knocked to the ground when the Lord first spoke to them. Both gave up the only life they knew to follow, and both traded their mortal life, for the reward of the Kingdom. He has called you too; have you answered?
“And I heard the voice of the LORD saying: “Whom shall I send?” and, “Who will go for us?” And I said: “Here I am. Send me.” - Isaiah 6:8
