Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. “I have told you this in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures but I will tell you clearly about the Father. On that day you will ask in my name, and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you. For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have come to believe that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.” -John 16:23-28
Have you ever prayed repeatedly for something, only to be disappointed that your prayers go unanswered, or worse yet, the answer is no? Sometimes, you must step back and consider that it isn’t Him; it’s you.
If we ask the Father for something in Jesus's name, we must ask in the same way that Jesus would ask the Father. It is tempting to ask for what we want rather than what God wants for us.
Consider that every soul’s number one need is to be in union with the Lord. The Father already loves us and will provide for us. Our prayers for ourselves and others should ask for the grace to conform our will to His. When we manage that, our joy becomes complete. We see a change in how quickly the Lord answers our prayers because we begin to ask for what the Lord already knows is needed.
