“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained." -John 20:19-23
In His Passion, Our Lord Jesus was crushed by an ocean of pain because of our sin. As that pain poured into Him, an ocean of mercy poured out from Him. On this Divine Mercy Sunday, may we contemplate the immensity of mercy Christ poured out for each of us.
Our ocean of pain intermingles with His ocean of mercy. One day, we will swim in that ocean and regret every ounce of pain we contributed to Jesus’ Passion. Repent now and avoid sin at all costs to lessen His suffering and yours.
On this day, Jesus promised to open the floodgates of his inexhaustible mercy and shower abundant graces on those who participate in this feast day. As we look forward in hope to our resurrection with the Lord, we know it is only possible because:
