“The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” Then he left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore.” -Mark 8:11-13
This generation, too, seeks a sign, just as the Pharisees did. Like the Pharisees, the signs are all around them, if only they would open their eyes to see.
Their blindness may push us, who see Christ’s miracles, to sigh from the depth of our spirit. In that sigh, there must be a prayer asking Our Lord not for more signs but that He will make the blind see.
Lord, God, may we all see the daily miracles you have placed in our lives. May you touch the eyes and ears of those too blind and deaf to see and hear your works. Jesus, may you use your faithful servants to touch the lost generation and shine your light upon them so they may also see the miracles in their lives. Amen.
