“Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick–no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.” So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.” -Mark 6:7-13
Some things are easier said than done. We evangelize by showing others that Christ lives within us. At first, this may seem difficult, but once we get the hang of letting the Holy Spirit speak through us, we find evangelization is more than easy; it is natural.
The difficulty I write about is shaking the dust from our feet. Even when we try to do God’s work, the enemy will try to twist our intentions. It is easy to become prideful and think, “I will not fail,” or “I’m not going to give up.” We forget it isn’t us who affects others, but Christ within us, and He will never enter against another’s will.
Untold numbers still need to hear Jesus’ message of repentance, and few can tell of it. May God grant us more success than failure in our evangelization. May the Holy Spirit guide us to avoid pridefulness, to know when and if it is time to do the hard thing, and to shake the dust from our feet as we move on to the next house.
Saint Paul Miki and Companions, pray for us.
