“The scribes who had come from Jerusalem said of Jesus, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "By the prince of demons he drives out demons." Summoning them, he began to speak to them in parables, "How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand; that is the end of him. But no one can enter a strong man's house to plunder his property unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house. Amen, I say to you, all sins and all blasphemies that people utter will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasting sin." For they had said, "He has an unclean spirit.”” -Mark 3:22-30
Sin builds a scale or callus on the soul, causing blindness to truth and hardening of the heart. One may become so steeped in sin that he believes God can never forgive him. That is the unforgivable sin, but why?
To receive forgiveness from Christ, we only need to bear to Him our contrite heart and ask for His mercy. Christ eagerly forgives if we present ourselves with true repentance and make atonement. The Lord showed me that even the most heinous sins fall away like dust in the wind for those who come to him in repentance. But first, the sinner must ask for forgiveness.
God is the God of all creation. In the Holy Spirit, anything is possible, and nothing is out of His reach. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is a twofold error. First, One must believe that God cannot do something as simple as forgive, and because of that lie, the sinner never asks Jesus, with a repentant heart, for His mercy. If we do not soften our hearts and ask His forgiveness, none will be given. Go today with a contrite heart, seek the Lord’s forgiveness, and watch the dust fall away.
