“Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him. He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles, that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach and to have authority to drive out demons: He appointed the Twelve: Simon, whom he named Peter; James, son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder; Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus; Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.” -Mark 3:13-19
The Apostles called by Christ had no idea where that walk up the mountain would lead them. Christ called, and they followed Him. Three years later, on Pentecost, Jesus would send them the Holy Spirit, and those same men would become the earthly leaders of Christ’s Church.
It’s hard to comprehend everything they must have seen and heard in those three years with Christ. Likewise, knowing everything God has planned for us in the coming months and years isn't possible. We can’t imagine where our walk with Christ will take us; we only know the Father will be there at the journey's end.
But before we can experience the greatness of God’s will in our lives, we must first answer Christ's call to go with Him up the mountain. Then, we trust His promise to send the Holy Spirit to guide us.
