“As Jesus approached Jericho a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging, and hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” He shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” The people walking in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent, but he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me!” Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He replied, “Lord, please let me see.” Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.” He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory to God. When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God.” -Luke 18:35-43
I don’t remember asking, but the Lord must have had pity and given me sight. I saw Truth as I viewed myself through the Father’s eyes. I never knew I had been blind for most of my life.
Before I saw myself in Truth, I thought I was a pretty good guy by the world’s standards and believed I was a Christian. If asked, I would have told you I was going to heaven. But when Christ let me see, what I saw nearly destroyed me. I looked at myself; I did not see a man influenced by Christ, but rather, I saw a man influenced by the world and buried under the weight of my sins.
Now, I am blessed that my sight remains. Where once I saw a man destined for heaven, now I see a sinner in most need of Jesus’ mercy and salvation if I am ever to live in the Father’s house. May God give each of us such a blessed gift that we may truly see.
