“On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees. He said to the host who invited him, "When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or sisters or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” -Luke 14:12-14
My friends, we are the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind, who Jesus has invited to His banquet of the Holy Mass. And indeed, we will never be able to repay Our Lord.
The Father sent the Son to be born, live, suffer, die, and rise again for one reason: that we may share in the resurrection of the righteous. He wants nothing more than for each of His children to return to Him for all eternity, so He willingly gave His only begotten Son for our ransom.
In the Mass, our mind consumes the inspired Word, while our body and soul consume the Word incarnate. Christ invites all to His banquet, but first, we must accept His invitation if we want to return to the Father.
