“Jesus went up to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.” -Luke 6:12-16
Jesus called the twelve to Himself, just as He calls you and me. It wasn't only what Apostles did in public that earned them a crown in the Kingdom; it was also what they did when no one was watching.
Eleven gave their hearts and minds to Christ, and one failed to give himself to the Lord. We do not hear about the eleven apostle's private time, but in that silence, they were still focused on the Lord. The traitor did not lose his crown in public view; he lost it when no one was looking.
So it is with you and me. Christ calls us to learn His way and teachings. He sends us out to make believers of all nations. Blessed are they who answer Christ’s call and follow Him. Even more blessed are those who still follow Him when no one is watching.
Saints Simon and Jude, pray for us.
