“Jesus appointed seventy-two other disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.” -Luke 10:1-12
“Like lambs among wolves.” When I read this passage, that description grabbed me. It would seem Jesus has sent us out, defenseless. But the owner of the sheep always places a shepherd with the flock.
The shepherd defends the sheep from the wolves. So it was with the disciples, and so it is with the laborers today. We are not alone; Christ goes with us, always.
Do not fear the wolves because they fear the Shepherd who never leaves you alone—labor for the Master to bring in the harvest.
