Jesus said to the disciples: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.” -Matthew 13:47-53
What is truth? There was a time when I was sure I would enter heaven. My truth was that I was a good guy by the world’s standards, and I believed my sins were insignificant. But I was not judged by the world’s standards.
I was given a gift to see myself through the eyes of Our Lord. I saw that by living in my truth, I was slowly working my way to an eternity utterly different from what I imagined. If we expect to be counted among the good, we must throw away the world’s truth to see ourselves in the Truth of Our Lord. Do not live by the world’s standard yet expect to enter into eternity with God.
Through God's grace, I can see my sins for what they are. I turn to Christ Jesus in repentance and seek His forgiveness. I offer penance for myself and others as I strive to live by God’s law. I now understand that if the angels are to place me into the Lord's bucket, it will be solely due to Jesus's boundless mercy.
