Jesus said, “To what shall we compare the Kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” -Mark 4:30-32
When we clear away the clutter in our soul to make room for Christ, we invite Him in to dwell. It begins with the smallest of movements by us, and He needs only the tiniest plot of soil to take root.
The Holy Spirit plants a seed, and as it grows, so grows God’s Kingdom. As Christ grows within us, He overtakes and pushes aside all the frivolous things. But He will not overtake us by force. Life with God begins after we clear away a small piece of soil in the center of our soul and invite Him in.
Like the seed planted in the ground, we need not understand how it grows; all that matters is whether or not God is growing in our souls.
