“The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were accustomed to fast. People came to Jesus and objected, “Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day.” -Mark 2:18-20
The Bridegroom has been taken from us, and today, we still await His return. While we wait, consider using the gift of time to do some good for the Lord. Grace flows into the soul through fasting and almsgiving, and both are powerful tools that strengthen our prayer life.
The year is still young. Consider adding regular fasting to your prayer routine this year if you haven't already. Offer your fast for your prayer intentions, a particular need, or better yet, offer it to Christ for what He knows the world needs most.
