“A leper came to him and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched the leper, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.” The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.” -Mark 1:40-42
When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, He said we should ask that the Father’s will be done. So often, our prayers to Him become a wish list of the things we want, ignoring what His wants are for us. Instead of Thy will be done, we mean my will be done.
We pray to the creator of the universe, the all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving God who loves us more than we can begin to understand. He wants nothing less than for us to live with Him for all eternity and has developed a plan for our life to bring us to Him. But in our prayer to God, we say, “Yes, I know all that, but I’m going to go my way on this, so listen to what I want.”
If you haven’t yet, reorient the intention of your prayer. Approach your conversations with God as the leper did. Kneeling before Christ, say, if you wish, you may make me clean. Likewise, when we pray for others, ask the Lord to satisfy their needs as only He knows them.
