“When Jesus looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. He said, "I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood." -Luke 21:1-4
It isn’t necessarily only our material wealth that Jesus wants us to offer, but rather, He wants us to give to Him our whole self. We live in a world where spiritual poverty by far outpaces physical poverty, for both the wealthy and poor alike suffer from a lack of faith and belief in the Lord. Let us be an example then to the world, just as the poor widow is, of what it looks like to give to God our whole life. When we offer God everything, our cycle of poverty is broken, and we begin to build true wealth.
