“Great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and he turned and addressed them, "Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple."-Luke 14:25,27
So often I hear from caring friends who tell me, “Just ask Jesus to heal you, He doesn’t want you to suffer.” But that isn’t what Christ tells us repeatedly throughout the Gospel. Jesus asks us to deny ourselves, carry our cross, and follow Him. We must push aside the false notions of this world and trust the words of Christ. In His words are a secret that we all must discover independently. God has placed His divine intimacy buried deeply within the core of our suffering. When we cast aside the false teachings of this world and embrace the teachings of Jesus, our outlook is radically changed, and the enemy is denied his victory over us. I have never been closer to the Lord than when my cross was at its heaviest. To feel the Lord, join with me under the weight of the cross, and carry it with me is a gift like nothing else I’ve experienced in this world. I would fight tooth and nail to selfishly keep the blessings and love that Christ pours into me, through my cross. But it all started when I made the conscious effort, to ignore the lie of the enemy, and instead, eagerly pick up my cross because I wanted to carry it for Christ. And, I’ll never look back, because that moment is when life truly began for me. If the Lord wills that I be healed, I would likewise cherish that gift, but either way, I know I am blessed, more than I deserve.
