“Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses. Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens hard to carry and lay them on people's shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them. All their works are performed to be seen." -Matthew 23:1-5
Christ asks us to practice what we preach. We cannot expect to preach the Gospel if we are not willing to live it in our daily lives. The only burden we should lay on the people is the same one we should carry ourselves, and it is the only burden of importance in our lives. There are so many who need to hear the saving Word of our Lord, and yet, we have so little time to speak it. Once we have heard, and our eyes and ears are opened, then it is our commission to speak the Truth to all who will hear. We speak it not only with what we say but more so with what we do.
Saint Elizabeth of the Visitation and Saint Zachary, pray for us.
