“When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments." -Matthew 22:34-40
What does loving the Lord with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, and ALL your mind mean? We could ponder it our whole lives and still not understand what it is to love God the way He asks. If we give Him all of ourselves, leaving nothing behind, emptying ourselves of the things of this world, and allowing Him to pour Himself into that void, then loving our neighbor becomes the result. God loves each one of us in a way and to an extent that we will never know until we stand and face Him. When we give all of ourselves to Him, we see that it is God who loves us with ALL His heart, ALL His Spirit, and ALL His mind. He gives us all of Himself, yet He does not force us, we must accept His gift. Let’s love our neighbor, by praying for all those who have not accepted God’s gift of total love.
