"While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward, knelt down before him, and said, "My daughter has just died. But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live." Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples. A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak. She said to herself, "If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured." Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, "Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you." And from that hour the woman was cured.” Matthew 9:18-22
The official and the woman were healed because of their faith, and that can lead us to believe whatever our heart desires will be given to us by Jesus. But that is not the message of this Scripture passage. We must remember, at the time, Jesus was unknown to most of the world, but God placed Himself in the hearts of these two so that they knew Christ could heal them. We need to allow God’s will for us to dwell in our hearts as well. We should not ask the Lord for what we want, but instead ask Him to give us what He knows we need. Then through faith, know that He will.
