Jesus said to his disciples: "Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This is how you are to pray: 'Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'
"If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions." -Matthew 6:8-15
How often do we think about the words we say, as we pray this prayer? The world demands that we speed through our day, so that we may accomplish what is important to us. When we pray to the Lord, slow down, and really speak to Him. Prayer is not a box to be checked, but rather it should be a good conversation with our Father, our Brother, and our God. Do we really want His will to be done? Do we trust Him to provide? Are we comfortable with our forgiveness being tied to our forgiveness of others? Do we avoid the temptations that lead us to sin? If not, are we willing to change?
