“As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said, "How do the scribes claim that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said: The Lord said to my lord, 'Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet.' David himself calls him 'lord'; so how is he his son?" The great crowd heard this with delight." -Mark 12:35-37
Many people of Jesus’ time believed that the Messiah would be a great leader of men and would free them from the oppression of this world. Are we any different now than they were then? We know Jesus is the Messiah, but how often do we dwell on Him saving us only from the trials of this world? Consider that God places gifts within all of our trials, and if we would only reach out and take hold of them, they would lead us closer to the Kingdom of the Holy Trinity. These are the blessings Jesus told us of when He gave us the Beatitudes. Jesus is indeed a great leader of men, a friend, a brother, our Savior, and our God. Why then focus only on Him saving us from the pains of this world, when we can ask Him to lead us closer to Him through our earthy burdens?
