“Grief-stricken in spirit, I, Tobit, groaned and wept aloud. Then with sobs I began to pray: "You are righteous, O Lord, and all your deeds are just; All your ways are mercy and truth; you are the judge of the world. And now, O Lord, may you be mindful of me, and look with favor upon me.” -Tobit 3:1-3
It has been over 2000 years since our Lord Jesus suffered and died on the cross, and while today we suffer our own afflictions, God from His Throne, sees both simultaneously. Because of God’s timelessness, we have the opportunity to unite our sufferings with those of Christ, because for God they happen in the same moment. If we approach our trials with the understanding that we carry that cross just as the Cyrene did with Jesus, we learn that the burden is not very heavy, at all. When we offer to carry our cross for Christ, we come to find that it is He who comes and carries our cross with us.
